Beanbag Football And Awakenings

I started out waking up in my old bedroom at Grandmamma's house. (the downstairs one) Em (wife) was there with me, and the room was extremely bare and clean. I think that the only thing that was in there was a bed, and that may have just been a mattress on the floor. I got up, and it was kind of early, and I went into the closet (the walk-in closet was still there) to get my clothes.

There was a box on the right side as I went in that was about waist high, and it had my underwear in it. I dug through the box and pulled out a pair of gray ones. I think I may have actually come back out empty handed the first time because I couldn't figure out what I was doing or where I needed to go because of still being sleepy. Finally I did start getting dressed, though, and Em woke up while I was doing so. She also got up and got ready, and eventually we were ready to go.

We wound up in an area that was supposed to be the "downtown" area of Mt. Sidney, VA. There was a fork in the road, and both forks went up this side of a large hill. They also went around the hill in a manner in which I couldn't see, going off either right or left. We were walking along the road, because I think we had parked somewhere. Cobbie (from Mercedes), was there, and we were supposed to be taking him to church. We were going to the First Presbyterian in Staunton.

So, we got there and walked right in. I think that we had actually already missed the service, and everyone was kind of milling about and ready to leave. We walked in though the main entry way, and we went up the wide flight of stairs to the Narthex area outside of the sanctuary. I said that I was going to take a look around, and I think that Cobbie went off to do the same. Em kind of followed me, and I got to a part where a ladder went up into a few rooms that were in the upper part of the church. It was a lot like being in a barn because it was unfinished and very open.

As I looked around the rooms up there, sometimes it was a little bit like being in the balcony, and at other times it was very open, almost as if construction hadn't been finished. I came to this one part where the floor wasn't finished, and I could see into the rooms below. In most of the rooms there wasn't anything interesting. In one room, though, I saw a group of about 10 people practicing "corn cobs". They were flicking around these dried corn cobs and making a rhythm with them.

Sarah (ex-girlfriend) was on the left end of the line of people and she was periodically twirling the cobs around or flipping them from hand to hand in the air, keeping the rhythm. It was interesting to see. I also noticed that just off to the left of her (my view... to HER right) I saw Em standing there watching them. My stomach almost did a double flip because of the two them being in the same room together. I realized, though, that neither one knew who the other was. Sarah was just practicing, and Em was just observing.

Finally I turned to go get Em and leave before there was any chance that they could figure out who each other was. I went back down the ladder that I had climbed up, and when I got to the bottom, there was an older, heavyset, white haired guy in a gray suit who saw my tee shirt (Mercedes) and started talking to me about the cars. I don't think I really knew much of what he was talking about or what he was asking about, and I wound up telling him that I worked in the Key and Lock Center, and, true to form, he said "oh, okay" and let the subject drop.

Then as found Em, and we started to go back through the Narthex, and to my left at the end, sitting in a couple of fold out chairs and talking to a couple of other people, I saw Sarah's parents. I pointed them out to Emily. I said something specific about her dad, but I forget what it was, such as commenting on his appearance, or saying that he looked like he was doing well, and Em agreed, and then we went back down the big flight of stairs to the front door.

On our way down, Sarah came up behind us. She was calling us names like "The Fat Team" or something, and she through a football shaped beanbag at us, which hit me on the arm or something, but I still caught it. We were trying to just leave, but she kept pursuing us. Finally we were outside, and it was like a park.

As we were getting near to the street, Sarah and several of her jock friends (and some valley girl type of friends, as well) started taunting us and referring to us as the Fat Team again. Em and I tried running by, but somehow we got sucked into this game of Beanbag Football. We wound up throwing the beanbag back and forth, and it was just the two of us against all of them. Of course we were doing terrible with no one to help us, but eventually we managed to break away and get to Em's car. I think that Cobbie was already there waiting on us.

We all got in, and left, and we went to take Cobbie back home. I think we actually wound up taking him to Food Lion in Verona, VA. He told us that he liked the church and that he thought he'd be going back there. Em and I were both very sad about that, but we didn't make an issue of it because it wasn't really our place to decide for him which church to go to. So we bid him farewell, and we left.

We got out to the edge of the parking lot, and we needed to get onto the road that was directly in front of us. It had gotten really cloudy, and maybe even rainy. There was a lot of traffic coming from the left, and we couldn't see past a wall that was there, so we had no way of knowing if someone was flying around that corner or not. Then someone pulled up on our left side (a large truck I believe) and we really couldn't see then.

I got a bit upset about this, and then the truck creeped out into the lane. It stopped, and I saw the driver motion to us to go. They had pulled out into traffic, made sure no one was coming, and then told us when to go, and we realized how cool that was. We waved a thank you, and we sped off to the right. Soon after this I woke up.

When I woke up, I laid there in bed for a moment, thinking about the dream. I knew that I needed to write it down otherwise I'd forget it. So I got up briefly, turned on the bedroom light, came out into the living room, turned on the kitchen light and the living room light, and I went and got my pad of paper, and started to write it down. I was out in the living room, and I heard a noise in the bedroom. I saw Em sitting up, looking a bit peeved at me, and I knew that I should finish quickly. Then I woke up again.

So I woke up and realized that I hadn't written anything down. I got up, went into the bathroom with the pad of paper, and wrote down some notes on the dream. Then I woke up again.

Yes, I really did this time.
