The Yard Inspector

I was at mom and Pat's (step-father) house, and I somehow heard from someone that "the inspector" was going to be by the next day to inspect our yard. I didn't know what needed to be done for our yard to pass, but whoever it was that told me that he was coming also told me that he was back there now just looking around to see what we needed to do before he did the actual inspection, and that I was free to go back and talk to him to find out what needed to be done. So

I headed back there, I saw a guy that had dark hair, a mustache, close cut beard, and glasses, and he was carrying a clipboard. I started talking to him about what needed to be done, and he walked around with me and showed me. One thing was to cut the grass. (it was pretty tall... above our ankles) and another was to clear up the line that separated our yard from the Garber's field. That meant to tear up any of the corn stalks that were over in our yard, including the ones that were growing inside of the chicken house. (???)

So he left, and I think I kind of dawdled around for a short bit, and then maybe even ended up going to bed. I think what I did was plan on getting up pretty early to do those things because I didn't think they'd take me very long. So I got up fairly early the next morning and I went out to start tearing up the stalks in the chicken house. I think I got part of that done, as well as part of the line between our field and the yard, but I think it was also taking longer than I had anticipated, and so the time for the inspector to get there was running close. I decided to leave the mowing of the yard for now because that was a "minor" thing from what he was saying.

While I was inside the chicken house, I think mom was there with me, but I don't really know what she was doing. I think she helped some, but it also seems to me that for some reason she was against the tearing down of the stalks.
