I was at school and there was a track meet going on. I was going up the flight of stairs at the end of the school (at the end of the cafeteria) and the people from Buffalo Gap (competing school) team were coming down the stairs. At first they all seemed nice and friendly, but as the last few were coming down the stairs, they started calling someone from our team a nigger. I wasn't saying anything to them about it, but as the last few went by (and by this point, they were all heading upstairs now because I remember the last few looking down at me over a balcony or something as they went up) I figured out that they were calling me a nigger, even though I'm white, because of something I had said about that first person they were talking about.
So I think I went down the hall of the first floor to try to go to the office to say something about them, and Jamey (tall guy from school and elementary school) came from the other direction, and he knew why I was there, and so he ran into the office and said something to them about me and lied and said I was the one that had started the whole thing. (he was there with Buffalo Gap) Then they wouldn't let me into the office to tell my side of the story.
So then I was back down at the stairs again, and Ellen (supervisor from Merillat) and Ronnie (friend from school and church) were there. Ellen and Ronnie were talking to Jamey about what he had said and they were trying to get him to tell the truth about what had happened, but he wouldn't do it. Then he was trying to get Ronnie to lie, too, and say that I had started it, but Ronnie said that he couldn't do that and that he was sticking with me and Ellen. A couple of the members of the Buffalo Gap track team were sitting there on the steps, too. (I was on the ones that went upstairs, and they were on the ones that went down to the cafeteria)
So then I left and went "back out" and I was at work. Ellen came out there with me and was going to show me how to use one of the machines right up there at the front, but she was worried about me doing it because the people in the office were deciding on whether or not to fire me, or at least what to do about the situation. I was kind of worried.
Then she went back in to see how it was going, and I stayed out there for a while and messed with the machine. Then she came storming out and she said that they decided to forget the whole thing and have people to quit. (kind of like a voluntary lay-off, I guess, except if you didn't quit, they'd fire you.) She was really worried about me, so she took me down the aisle way that goes down the left side of the plant (by door and frame departments). As we got to the back of the plant, she was telling someone about what happened and that she wanted to keep me out of sight so that they didn't come and tell me to quit.
