Dalai Lama at Staples

Em (wife) and I were shopping around on a rainy day, and we decided to go to Staples for something. As soon as we got there, somehow it became obvious that the Dali Lama was coming. I don't remember if someone told us, if we read it somewhere, or if we just knew it. Either way, he showed up shortly after with a brigade of people who were kind of like body guards, but also kind of like lawyers.

When he saw me, we greeted each other like old friends. We gave each other a big hug and patted each other on the back. When he saw Emily, they greeted each other the same way, except he called out the name, "Elizabeth!" when he saw her. Somehow I knew that Em and he had met before, like one of them had taken care of the other. (I think she had taken care of him as a child or something)

We walked around Staples for a bit while we talked. I don't remember what we were talking about, but at one point I was going to write something down for him because I wasn't saying it (pronouncing it) clearly enough for him to understand me. When I got the small piece of paper and started to write (I don't remember what the word was) Em became upset at me because she thought I was treating him badly by doing it this way rather than trying to pronounce it in a way that he would understand. He tried to reassure her that it was fine, but Em didn't want to listen. After getting this word taken care of, we walked around and talked a bit more. Pretty soon it was time for him to go, so we gave him another hug and he left with his group.
