Amityville Church

[This dream takes place on a spot along my old school bus route. It's just off of Keezletown Road on a road called Chapel Hill Lane. Right at the peak of Chapel Hill was where the road went from being paved to being a dirt road and the road entered the woods. There was a small white church there too, just before one hits the dirt road, but just inside of the woods.]

I was traveling (I'm not sure if I was walking, driving, or other) along Keezletown Road in Weyers Cave, Va, and I turned onto Chapel Hill Lane. At the top of the small hill was a little church. The church looked very old and run down. It was very dark, and almost looked like an old and decrepit house rather than a church. It was kind of dark and stormy looking outside, which enhanced the effect.

I wound up going up to the church, and I realized that even though it was run down, it could use some nice Christmas lights to help liven it up. I'm not sure why I thought Christmas lights would do the trick, but I just thought they would.

I went around back of the church and was looking around a little bit, trying to figure out the best way to get up onto the roof and start putting up the lights. While I was looking around, there was something strange that started surfacing. I somehow realized that there were terrible things that had gone on at the church. There were murders of children that had happened there, and either the guy that did the murders was still there, or he had died as well and he was haunting the place.

I thought for a moment about letting that scare me away, but I decided that I needed to put the lights up anyway. Em (my wife) was there with me, at least for a little bit of the time, and she was helping me with the lights. I climbed up onto the roof on the back side of the church. The roof back there was just a single story roof, but farther in towards the center of the house, there was a second story. From the position I was starting in, the second story wall was on my right and the edge of the roof I was on was on my left.

I started using a staple gun or an air nailer, and I was putting up a string of lights that had the big bulbs on it. I was actually putting them on the roof itself rather than across the face of the eves. I was following a rectangular pattern where I started about a foot away from the edge of the roof, went to the edge, along the edge for about a foot and a half, and then back up away from the edge, kind of like this: |_||_||_||_||_|

When I got near the far end of the roof, the wind started picking up and it got a bit colder. There was something sort of like a recessed dormer window that I was trying to work around when the guy that had murdered the children showed up. He looked like Anthony Hopkins, and he was very angry that I was putting the lights up. He looked kind of like he was dressed up sort of like the main bad guy in the movie "The Cell". He had a big robe or cape, and an ornate head piece, as if he thought he was some sort of emperor or something. He was out from the left edge of the roof (opposite of the second story portion of the house)

I wound up having a lot of silverware there with me, so I started taking the forks and throwing them at the guy as if they were throwing knives. The forks seemed to be weighted kind of like throwing knives, too, so they spun nicely and had a good bit of weight behind them which kept good momentum, even in the strong winds that were blowing. I threw fork after fork, missing him with most of them, but hitting him with a few. Some of them glanced off of him because they hit with the wrong end, but there were a couple that the pronged end found their mark and stuck in him. One hit him in the head, and another hit him in his shoulder or chest. Despite hitting him and sticking him with a few, he wasn't moving around at all. He stayed stationary, yelling at me, and possibly even throwing things at me. By "things", it was either the forks I had already thrown at him, or it was something like shots of magical/spiritual energy. It seemed to waver between the two.

During this time, I'm not sure what happened with Em. It seems like she was still around, but he wasn't paying any attention to the fact that she was there. He was just concerned with me. Also during this time, my brother Eric may have shown up and helped me out. It seems that there was a brief stint where we actually went inside the church directly under where I had been putting up the lights on the roof, and we were looking for something. I'm not exactly sure what we were looking for, but it was either something like evidence that the guy had killed the children, or we were looking for something to dispel him with. That could be where we got the silverware from originally.

After a bit of this went on for a while, I wound up back on the ground, and I had gotten a sword from somewhere. It was a thin sword that reminded me a bit of a fencing foil or a rapier. I went around to the same end of the church where I had started putting on the lights, and I started slashing at the exterior of the house. Little by little, I was making thin slices in the wall. The guy was yelling at me to stop, but I kept going. After slashing for a while, there was a section of the house (about 4 feet wide) that kind of peeled off the rest of the house. It was almost as if it were on hinges and it just swung away to my right, exposing another wall inside. I started slashing at this wall, too. Since the second wall was an interior wall, there were openings in it that allowed me into the rest of the church. I wound up going inside.

I'm not sure what happened at this point, but it was something that resulted in what felt like the defeat of the murderer. Everything felt clean and new, and a significant amount of time went by. There was a new house that Em and I had built that was about 500 feet away from the remains of the church, off the same end from where I had originally started putting up the lights. We were looking at the house with satisfaction and we started walking towards it. It was night time out.

Only after taking a few steps, the sky opened up, and this big ring of light came flashing downwards and went completely around the new house. It did something that almost looked like it splashed as it hit, and then the house started to change. The shrubs out front grew legs and turned into large animal like shapes. The house now had "wounds" on it that bled and were several feet long. There was an evil laughter that emitted from it at this point, and we realized that the murderer had come back and was now haunting our new house.

We somehow got inside the new house, and there were clones of this guy running around all over the place. Some of them were destroying things, some were chasing after us, and some were just standing around and were willing to help us out if we asked.

I still had the sword with me, and I was slashing at the various clones of the guy, but it didn't seem to be doing any good because I could only hit one at a time. One of the clones was in the kitchen and he had me to come in there at one point. He held up a green glass bottle that was supposed to be a wine bottle. He told me if I could slash off the bottom end of it, I could use that more effectively than the sword because it would allow me to hit all of the clones around me at the same time.

I started slashing at it but I seemed to be making very little progress. I kept trying, and eventually not only did the bottom of it break off, but so did the neck of the bottle. I now had no way to hold on to it to use it, and I realized that the clone that was "helping" me knew that this would happen and it turned out he wasn't helping me at all. I started to get very angry, but I was frightened at the same time because I didn't know what to do, and then I woke up.
