Hyperspace Transport Station

I was away from home, in some sort of downtown or mall setting, and I guess I was doing some shopping kind of late at night. On the pavement/floor in front of me at one point, I noticed a little round red reflector on the floor before I could avoid stepping on it. When I stepped on it, I was sucked out of existence as I knew it, and I was speeding through space. The stars were swirling around me like I was in the middle of a giant vortex.

When I came out on the other end after several minutes, I was in a place that was a lot like a train station. There were things that looked like mag-lev tracks that went in and out of these huge pure white spheres. The spheres were buildings, and they were supported on 4 sides by large pole like structures that stuck out of the spheres and into the ground. It had the look and feel of being just south of Weyers Cave along interstate 81.

Somehow, either by seeing all of this or by talking with someone, or hearing a voice describe it in my head how this station works. It's a Hyperspace Transport Station, and it works by a person stepping onto a trigger (the red reflector) and sending a passenger through hyperspace in order to travel. In this way, I'm told, it takes the straight path between two points, and allows the traveler to always use that straight path, no matter what might be in the way. The travel also happens very quickly, so what might be a 20 hour flight from the US to eastern Europe now happens in the matter of 20 or 30 minutes.

It strikes me that I'm a bit surprised that hyperspace travel isn't faster. I would have thought it would have allowed for nearly instantaneous travel, but it didn't. I got the impression that not everyone gets to stop and see the actual station. Now that this was explained to me, I was continued onto my journey.

I wound up in a mall in England after several minutes. I started looking around at a small souvenir or toy shop on the corner of one of the hallways, and everyone around me was speaking with a British accent. Some one asked me a question about a toy or something close by, and I felt a little hesitant to respond because I would stick out in the crowd as someone who wasn't local because of my American accent. I did finally answer, and everyone looked up in surprise and started commenting about, "hey, an American!" and they all seemed genuinely excited. I was relieved that they felt that way instead of hostile, as would have been closer to my real expectation.

I found out that the store, and the mall in general, were going to be closing soon, so I left and started looking for a way out of the mall. As I walked around, I found several areas that were occupied by large groups of people. Most of them were young girls and boys with their parents doing various activities. One large group of girls was doing some sort of dance practice. Another group was doing cheer leading practice. Some boys were practicing sports. It was like a whole after school sports thing, only it was getting to be pretty late at night, after 9:00pm or so. All these areas that they were doing their practicing in were kind of like the media room at Stewart Middle School where we used to have some big meetings and such for school.

I finally found my way out and got out to the street. After having done so, I noticed a group of people standing around and talking fairly animatedly. I found out that they were travelers like me, only they didn't have any clue as to what happened. I realized I could help them to get back home, so I led them about for a while until we found a bunch of those red reflectors on the ground out in the middle of a dark and rainy alley way. I told them to each go by one and then we'd all step on them at once.

We did so, and as we started to get whisked off into the purple space marked with bright white stars, I could feel a couple of them holding on to me. I knew that they didn't need to, but I didn't feel that I needed to tell them not to. It would only cause them to worry more if I did.

As we were traveling this time, I got to really pay attention to the mode of travel. I felt like I was standing, and there was a light breeze blowing around me as if I were moving through air instead of space. I noticed that the view of space around me was actually quite well lit, looking like a medium periwinkle sort of color. I felt like I was standing on something solid (probably one of those mag-lev looking tracks) and the stars were spinning around us as if they were forming a tunnel and the tunnel was spinning around us as we moved. I didn't get the sense of loss of balance that I would have in real life, like at the exhibit at Ripley's museum. We all arrived safe and sound back in our home area. I guess we were all from the same area.
