Escaping from the Uruk-hai

I was at the little house I grew up in, but it looked the same as it did before we added on to it.  I was outside with a number of people, and it was overcast and warm.

I'm not sure what we were doing initially, but soon we started seeing Uruk-hai (from Lord of the Rings) showing up and setting up areas to prepare for battle.  We knew that they were going to be targeting us for the battle, but they didn't seem to care that we were wandering around and seeing what they were doing.  They pretty much completely ignored us for the time being.

We knew that once the Uruk-hai decided to let loose, we were going to be killed off pretty quickly.  We were huddled at the corner of the house where the kitchen is discussing what we were going to try to do to either fight them or escape, but we couldn't come up with anything that we thought would work.

Suddenly John Locke (from Lost) showed up and said that if we wanted to survive, we needed to go with him.  We wound up walking for a bit and eventually wound up on the outskirts of Harrisonburg.  He took us into some sort of building, either like a small cabin or house, or perhaps some sort of small shop, where we wound up going down into the basement and then out through a short tunnel in the back of the basement.  We came out of the tunnel and we were in this densely wooded area, which we thought of as "the forests of Harrisonburg."   Even though we had only gone a short way through the cabin or shop and basement tunnel, we knew that it had actually deposited us a long way away from where we had entered the building initially.

We followed a tightly winding but well worn path up and around a few hills and eventually made it into a small clearing.  There, we were met by a bunch of John's friends, who were a bunch of older, bearded and mostly overweight men.  They had a bunch of radio equipment and remote controlled cars that they were using to track the Uruk-hai in order to detect if they were going to be attacked.

After a short bit, a short and thin woman with short dark hair showed up.  She looked like Morena Baccarin's character "Anna" from the TV show "V".  She had a kind of an aura of power about her, and soon we found out that she was Darth Vader's wife, but Vader was dead.

She was talking with John and the other men for a bit, and it was soon discussed that she and Vader had had two children, both boys.  One of them was grown and successful and off ruling some planet or something, but the other was thought to either suffer from some sort of mental or developmental disorder, or to have died some time ago.  The successful son, she knew, wouldn't be able to be bothered to come help us to fight off the Uruk-hai, so one of the men suggested using his radio equipment to search out the son that everyone thought to be dead.  Obviously most people thought that would be a waste of time, but he did it anyway, and one or two other people, including Vader's wife, decided to help out.

I wound up leaving for short time to go to the bathroom, but when I returned, they had found that the second son was actually alive and well and they were in the process of contacting him to have him come help us.

My alarm went off and the dream ended here.

Apartment Hunting

I was walking around at an amusement park with Em.  We saw a roller coaster with tons of loops and two "open" ends of track that were at opposite ends of the coaster, but pointed towards one another.  Upon seeing it, I realized that I had heard on the news about another one just like it where people had died, but I don't think it was the one at this particular park.

We stood and watch the roller coaster train as it went through the loops and eventually off one end of the open track, flew upside down to the other end of the coaster and hooked right into the other open track and kept on going.  I thought to myself that there was no way that could be safe, and I told Em that it would only take a few numbskulls to make an effort to throw their weight to one side or the other while in mid air for the train to not make it across to the other side successfully.

After a bit, we wound up leaving and going to an apartment complex to see an apartment that's for sale.  We went into main hallway or lobby, which was also the primary stairwell area, and it was very busy with people all over the place.  It was raining, and the stairwells were open at the top, letting it the rain.  Going upstairs meant getting rained on.  There was a stairwell in each corner of the building, but we went up the one at the front-right of the building.

We started climbing the stairs to go to the top floor.  Each floor was a very wide hallway (20 or 30 feet wide) and almost felt like a parking garage with doors in concrete walls on either side.  As we got to the top floor, we realized that none of the apartments had numbers, so we weren't sure which one was the one we were there to see.

As we exited the stairwell and were looking for the apartment, we walked along the wall on our right.  As we passed, we noticed five or six people dumping loads and loads of laundry into chutes in the wall.

Finally Em figured out which apartment we were there to see and knocked on the door.  The current tenant threw the door open and yanked her in.  He reminded me of Adam from Mythbusters, only he was more squirrely and goofy.  I followed them into the apartment.

I quickly noticed that the apartment was tiny and dirty.  There was a small kitchen as you walked in, and the apartment went off to the right from there where there was a small living and dining area.  At the end of the dining area, the apartment made a right, and there was a small bedroom area off to the right that was open to the rest of the apartment.

We made the short walk through the apartment and wound up in the bedroom.  The bed, which was just a dirty little cot, was on the left, and on the right was an area that had short wall that was three or four feet high with an opening right in the middle.  The area was about six or eight feet wide, and about twelve feet long, and it was full of laundry.  There were chutes on the wall, and the people that were outside dumping in their laundry were dumping it right into this apartment!

The laundry was piled up four or five feet high, and at one point I noticed a white "wife beater" shirt in the pile that reminded me of a white, pasty fat and hairy male torso, kind of like Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.  Suddenly it was no longer the shirt, but an actual torso laying in the middle of the laundry.

Then a thin, old, shirtless and shoeless man barged in through a door in the end of the bedroom with two dogs.  He reminded me of Rip Torn's character on Dodgeball or the trans-gender sergeant on Venture Bros.

One dog was a bulldog, and despite looking very happy and friendly, I was afraid it would bite my hand, so I made an effort to keep my hands away from it.  The other dog was on a leash, was green and brown in splotches, and only had one leg.  Somehow I knew that it may have been dead at one time.  The landlord was "walking" (hopping?) the green dog around in the apartment quickly chanting "take a dump take a dump take a dump" over and over to the dog.  The apartment tenant acted like this was normal.

Then my attention turned to the TV, which was back in the dining area.  A giant image of a dead woman from the 19th century came up, and she was partially covered in maggots.  It was supposed to be some sort of miracle (in the same sense as some surviving relic from the Virgin Mary or something) because she had been dead for so long, yet there was still stuff for the maggots to live off of.  I felt sick to my stomach, and I turned to Em and said, "That's it!" and grabbed her arm and we left.

On the way out, we realized that the apartment complex had "closed" and now there was no one around.  Doors to stairways and ways out were closed and locked.  We wandered around for a bit and found our way down to the second floor, but we couldn't get down to the first floor no matter what we tried.  At one point we looked over a balcony, and it reminded me of Super Mario 64 with big paintings on the walls and a fountain in the middle of the floor.  The dream ended before we got out.

    Racing to the Devil

Through the whole dream it was night time out, and it felt a bit like "The Lost Highway".  I was somewhere where the land was very flat, and it had the feel of being near a beach.  The area was sparsely populated with things like a few service stations or dilapidated strip malls.

I was in a black car that felt something like an older muscle car.  It was very clean and shiny with chrome accents.  I wound up driving to some predetermined meeting point very slowly.  I'm not entirely sure who or what I was supposed to be meeting there, but the meeting was brief and I was soon back at my original starting point.  There were some other things that went on that I don't remember, but it eventually wound up being time to make a second trip.  On this second trip, I was basically going off to be some sort of hero and face off against the Devil.

I was in the car again, and I was at an intersection and made a right hand turn.  Even though I don't know what my plan was, I had a gut feeling that I knew exactly what I was doing.

While taking off, I noticed that the car had a manual transmission.  I thew it into first gear and jumped on the gas.  The car took off lightning fast, and despite only being in first gear, my speed increased quickly.  As I ratcheted my way up through the gears, I took off faster and faster, eventually speeding off at over 600 miles per hour towards my encounter with the Devil.

I don't know how the encounter turned out, but some time later the dream changed over, and I was actually writing down the details of the dream within a new dream.  Suddenly, and for seemingly no reason, I was scared awake, and for a brief moment, I thought I saw someone standing next to the bed.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Five Dollars

In the scene where everyone changes into Harry (in the actual book), Harry was changed into some older guy.  A fight broke out, and while it was going on, Harry started changing back into his own form.  After the fight was complete, they were out in this big destroyed city area, and Harry's transformation back had stopped early.  He had a section on the right side of his head (his right) that was still bald.  Even though I was just a "viewer", I took a five dollar bill and wiped it across the untransformed spot, and it went back to normal.

    The Slow Dungeon

I was in a building that felt like a house or a cluttered downtown shop.  I was slowly making my way through the rooms while looking at the things around me, either as if I was going to purchase the items or if I was looking to purchase the building.

Eventually I made my way to the back of the building and into the kitchen.  The kitchen was nice and updated with stainless steel appliances, nice brown tile on the floor, black granite on the counters and the walls were painted a deep shade of red.  There were windows off to my left, and a back door to exit the building was in the middle of the back wall.

On either side of the back door were two spiral sets of stone steps heading down.  The person I was with was the current owner of the building, and when I saw the stone spiral steps, they informed me that they went down to the basements, which were called "Slow Dungeons".  Although they didn't tell me anything about them, I knew that going into the Slow Dungeons was a dangerous thing, and that once I chose to go down there, there was no coming back out without dealing with those dangers.  Part of that danger was that things could not happen too quickly down there, such as moving too quickly or solving puzzles too quickly to get out, otherwise it would cause some sort of death or destruction.  I looked at both sets of stairs and opted to take the ones on the left, spiraling around clockwise as I went down.

Once I was in the first level of the basement, I began slowly looking around.  I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be looking for or doing in order to progress into deeper levels.  There was all sorts of stuff laying around on tables and in old glass curio cabinets, and the place looked a bit like a cross between a thrift shop and an antique store.  I knew that something here had to be the first step to getting through this place, but I didn't know what.  After a while of looking around, someone I was with wound up finding a dragon head that could fly.  They were able to use it to do something which unlocked our way to the next level of the dungeon.  I don't remember what they did with it, but I remember it flying around soon before we knew we could progress.

Once we got to the next level, I knew that I was going to be on my own to figure it out.  I felt like I had a little bit better understanding of what I was supposed to be looking for, but I still wasn't feeling terribly confident.

The second floor had more one and two step raised platforms with items resting on them than the first level did, but everything was still just as cluttered.  Before I was able to really get started with figuring my way out of this level and to the next one, the dream ended.

House Hunting, Breakfast and the Garage Network

Em and I went house hunting.  We were scheduled to go this one particular house that was kind of old and had some sort of strangely "country" feel to it because it had a brick floor.

We got there, and it was fairly early in the morning, and despite being scheduled to be there at that time, the family that lived there hadn't gotten ready and left yet.  There was a mother, a father, and at least one child.  They were almost ready, but they were running a bit behind.  When we knocked on the door and they answered and saw it was us, rather than hurry and leave, they decided that they might as well stay since we had seen them already.

We walked in from the direction of the garage, which was kind of close to the kitchen.

    Main Floor

We walked past the bathroom and looked in.  It was a good sized bathroom with a tub.  After continuing on towards the kitchen, we noticed that the ceilings were really high, around 12 feet or so.  Along with this, the kitchen was already really big, so it made the place feel huge.

The mother decided to make everyone breakfast, so she got out her stuff to start cooking.  While she was cooking, Em and I were looking around the kitchen.  I noticed that there were two stoves.  There was the one against the wall with the range hood over it that the mother was using, and there was another in the middle of the kitchen that had a removable counter top on top of it.  There was nothing else on or around that second stove, so it felt very out of place.  Also, the second stove was in a second level of the kitchen that was about three or four steps down from the main part of the kitchen.  (that wasn't drawn in the picture due to time constraints)

While we were waiting for breakfast, I saw that there was an opening in the wall behind us along with a doorway.  It went into a very small and over stuff living room.  It was full of a bunch of old furniture and felt like a section or vendor space at an antique store.  There were evidently a couple of family members hanging out in there, too.  I think it was like a set of grand parents or maybe some older (and kind of redneck) siblings of one of the parents.  They were waiting on breakfast with the rest of us, but they were being loud and cranky about having to wait.

At one point I either found out or figured out that the garage was really strange.  I realized that a large chunk of the back wall was open or something, so I went to check it out because, despite this not being our house (yet), we had a bunch of our stuff in there.

I went to the garage and looked inside.  It was lit and fairly bright, and I noticed that the right side of the garage had a large downward slope to it.  I knew that this lead down into a tunnel network where "all of the garages came together."  (I'm not sure if I started to think of this as a condo or apartment or if it was just something odd going on with the houses in a neighborhood.)

    Garage Ramps

As I walked downward, I was thinking more and more about how I didn't like this because I didn't want anyone getting into our stuff.  I was starting to panic about how unsafe our stuff was.  I was going to go down and take a look and see just how connected these garages were.

I looped around to the left and went down a second ramp, and as I got to the bottom, I heard voices.  I stepped out into the hallway type of area where all of the garages came together, and there was a group of about three kids there.  They were trying to pretend they were playing, but they kept scowling at me because they knew that I knew what they were up to, which was trying to take a peek into everyone's garages to see if there was anything they wanted.

I tried to act nonchalant like I was just down there for a quick stroll or because I was looking for something, and then I turned and went back up the ramps, at which point the dream ended.

    Space Junk: Return to Sender

I was outside and it was a bright day despite all of the cloud cover that was around.  I was in a big suburban area of a big city, which I could see in the near distance in front of me.

Radios and TVs were carrying news about an alien invasion, and everyone was freaking out.  I had the feeling that the aliens were not there to harm anyone, but like many movies, "we" decided to attack before understanding what was really going on.

The military started hurling huge pieces of what can only be described as "junk" into the sky.  Chunks of old abandoned buildings (entire floors, or corner sections that were around 20 feet wide), rusted and crashed cars, and all sorts of other trash that they could find.  I'm not sure exactly what they were using to fire the stuff up into the sky even though they were doing it out in plain sight a couple of hundred feet off to my left.  Sometimes it felt like they were using huge cannons, and other times it felt like huge catapults or trebuchets.

The thing that was really odd about the whole thing was that even though they were firing all this junk up into the sky, they couldn't see what they were firing out.  The aliens were on the other side of the clouds.  It was like the clouds were perfectly opaque, despite the fact that everything was so bright, almost as if it were sunny out.  There were no dark shapes on the other side of the clouds.  There wasn't anything even indicating that they were there.  We just knew they were.

As the military fired things, they would disappear through the clouds like pebbles through the surface of a calm lake.  Nothing was falling back through, yet there seemed to be sounds of the items making contact.  This didn't seem to bother anyone for a while as they kept firing crap through the clouds.

Then, without warning, things turned horrible.  The aliens had been gathering our junk we were hurling at them and, they finally started firing it back.  Whole cars, whole chunks of buildings and everything else came crashing back at us, destroying everything around.  People were running and screaming everywhere, but there were still those of us that could only stand and watch as things unfolded.

Then a hole opened up in a small section of the clouds, and this huge arm came down through and started throwing more junk back at us.  The ironic part is that this arm was made out of the junk we had just sent through the clouds.  As we thought we were bombarding them to blow them out of the sky, they were actually taking the junk and things from it before hurling the rest back.

I remember a big chunk of building landing pretty close by to me and getting another look at that "mechanical" arm right before I woke up.

    Lucidly Moving Stars

There was a lot more to the dream, but I only remember a small chunk of it now.

I was outside, I think near Weyers Cave Elementary School, it was night time, and I was looking up in to the sky.  I got the feeling that I might see stars starting to move around like I often do in my dreams, which caused me to start becoming lucid and consider that I might be dreaming.  As I watched, over some trees kind of to my right (facing towards Massanutten) I started seeing a few moving stars come up over the tops of the trees.  They weren't moving in a straight line, but rather in somewhat random and squiggly motion.

There was a man standing next to me.  He looked like he was nearing 50, and he had thinning blond hair and big glasses.  He reminded me somewhat of a more 'with it" version of Milton from Office Space.  I got his attention and pointed the moving stars out to him, and he was watching them with a grin on his face.   As I did, I thought to myself that if I asked him something, and if he gave a particular answer, then I would know I was dreaming.  I don't remember the exact question that I asked him, but it was something that I knew that he wouldn't know the actual answer to (or I thought that he would think the answer was something completely different) if this wasn't a dream.  It was something along the lines of, "Do I feel like I know what I'm doing at work?"  If he answered "yes", then I would know this was a dream.  Sure enough, while grinning and keeping his eyes on the stars, he said yes and nodded his head slowly.

I was so excited about realizing that this really was all a dream that I woke myself up.

Taking a Sleepy Pee in the Woods

I started out waking up and feeling like I had to pee.  I looked around me, and I was in the front room of a small cabin.  It was sparsely decorated with a small cot, which I was in, and a chair or two and a fireplace somewhere in the room with a small fire going.

I knew that there was someone else there at the cabin with me, but I didn't know where they were at the moment.  I only knew that they weren't sleeping.

I got up and went out the front door.  There was a bright flood light on the front of the cabin that was shining out into the yard.  The area beyond the yard wasn't quite dense enough with trees to be considered a forest, but there were plenty of trees around.  It was dark out, a little chilly, and there was a light mist hanging around.

I didn't want to pee there in the front yard, so I looked around and decided to head out along the path and through the trees out from the front of the cabin.  I trotted off in that direction to find a place to go.  As I went, I never felt fully awake.  Despite the fact that I was jogging and it was chilly out, it was like I was barely awake.  I just knew three things:  I had to pee, I was following a path, and no matter how far away from the cabin I got, the flood light shone just as bright as if I was at the edge of the yard.

I wound up jogging for about twenty minutes, following the path and winding my way around trees and hills.  I finally got to an area that was a little more open and had a bit of an upward slope to it.  I went to the other side of this area and noticed that just on the other side was the crest of a hill, and down the slope were more trees on the other side.  As I went down the far side of the hill, the flood light from the cabin finally quit following me.

Still feeling like I was mostly asleep, I also finally felt like I was out of view of the cabin and could go to the bathroom in peace.  I did so and then turned to make the return journey.

After going back over the top of the hill and seeing the flood light in front of me, I vaguely remember seeing and hearing a small herd of buffalo there in the clearing.  Some were sleeping, others were standing and quietly eating, but I could hear their breath sometimes and hear the rustle of the grass if they moved a hoof a little bit.

I started jogging again and went all the way back to the cabin, which took about another twenty minutes.

When I got back to the cabin, I was still mostly asleep, but as I slowed down and went back inside, I finally started to wake up and realize just how asleep I had been.  I was amazed that all of that running for 40 minutes in the chilly air didn't do more to wake me up.

Once I was inside, I met the other person that I was there with.  It was Jethro Gibbs from NCIS.  He was asking me where I had gone to.  I told him that I had to go pee, and he started getting agitated and angry.  He knew I had gone far away to pee, and he was asking me about where I went.  I was telling him that I wasn't sure, and he said, "Well, you didn't go out past the buffalo, did you??"

As soon as he said that, I realized that there was something out there besides the buffalo.  I don't know what it was, but I knew it was dangerous.  It was something nebulous and not well defined.  It had the feeling of some mystery from Lost, like the smoke monster or a force or something.  I knew immediately I had been stupid to go out that far, but I had forgotten, and now I felt very lucky to be back safe.
